This week twenty five Warblers travelled to Alicante to find the golf course in remarkably good condtion given the heavy rain the night before. Today was a medal competition with two divisions kindly sponsored by Jim Rodgers.
Fred Cooley won division one on countback with a net 75 off 11.5 Hcap. Second with also 75 was David French (Hcap 11.6) and third came Michael Morley (Hcap 9.0) with a 77. Winner of division two was consistant Barbara Pollitt (Hcap 21.9) with a net 76, a close second with a 76 was Tony Dickinson (Hcap 23.0) a great score considering it was only his second game since the end of June last year after having an important operation. In third place was the quick fire Deryck Williams (Hcap 19.8) with 79 winning on countback. The lowest Gross today was Cap'n Dave (Hcap 7.9)with a very creditable 85.
Three nearest the pins saw Michael Taylor win one on the 3rd, Michael Morley on the 8th and Dereck Gray rolling back the years on hole 15. there was also two longest drives in div 1 it was Fred Cooley and div 2 Sylvia Mortensen. Two Doubles matches saw Steve Davies and John Allen beat Jorgen Mortensen 4 & 3, and after a good fightback Michael Taylor and Derek Gray lost 1 down to Michael Morley and David Edwards. There was only one two today won by Michael Morley on hole 8 who was having a very good day.
Malcolm Robinson was kind enough to share his Birthday with us by putting up two nice prizes for overall 11th and 16th which were won by Steve Head and Derek Gray respectively.Today's winning team on the football card was Blackburn won by Michael Taylor. The Warblers would like to thank Jim Rodgers for the vey nice Sponsorship today. Well done to all our winners.
Story of the day was Roger Vicars on the 18th hole. After his drive he noticed his ball was split and asked if he could change it which he duly did but then proceeded to hit his next three balls into the water and ended up with an eleven he was heard to say "I don't believe it". Unlucky Roger.
