Orba Warblers made the short trip to Oliva Nova Golf this week to find the course in very good condition and extremely busy.  We were pleased to welcome two guests today, Rod Chapman and Michael Grant.  Today’s game was an individual stableford format, with a quirky team quiz going on, with clues attached to various flag sticks.

Dominating the day and top of Division one (getting a handicap cut into the bargain) was the very “in form” Chris Williamson with 39 pts (hcp 7.7, now playing of hcp 7.1), second place went to the ever consistent Steve Smith with 34 pts (hcp 4.9 ), with Bob Edwards taking third spot with 33 pts (hcp 9.1 ).   Division two was won by Rosemary Edwards with 37 pts (hcp 21.5, now playing off 21.1), followed by Sheila Dindar in second place with 34 pts (hcp 26.3 ), with Nick Berry completing the podium in third place with 27 pts (hcp 27.4).  Longest drive prizes on hole 10 went to Sylvia Evans for the ladies, with Chris “boom boom” Williamson taking the men’s.  Chris also won the nearest the pin in one prize on hole 5, with Steve Smith taking the nearest the pin in two prize on the same hole.    Steve had the only two of the day winning a coveted Warbler ball for his birdie on hole 11.  Arthur Sullivan and Rosemary Edwards won the men’s and ladies prizes for being nearest the pin on the 16th.  Chris Williamson completed a great day by winning the football card with Burnley, he then “slam dunked” his winnings into the Captain’s charity bucket (nice one Chris!).  The quiz prize was won by Nick Berry, Sheila Dindar, John Stent and guest Mike Grant.   Big thanks today go to our sponsors David and Carole for their generous prizes, although their quiz theme left many of us scratching our heads on the way home.

Next week, Wednesday, 21 March, we are at Alenda for the Spring Trophy (pairs’ better ball competition).  First tee time 11 a.m., please arrive by 10.15 a.m. for registration.   Guests are welcome subject to space availability and current handicap certificate.  To book, please contact Michael Taylor on tel. 639242896.
