19 members and 3 guests (Bernice & Aidan O'Halloran and Jonathan Keene) played at Altea Golf (formerly Don Cayo) on 9 March. We haven't played the course since 2014 and, despite mostly fast and true greens, the fairways were very patchy and bare in places. After expecting a very cold start the weather remained rather chilly but with little wind and the forecasted rain held off until everyone was back in the clubhouse.
The tricky course, however, obviously caused problems for the players, particularly in Division 1 with the top score being 29 points by Steve Davis (12.3 h/cap). Steve Smith was second with 27 points (4.5 h/cap) and in third place was Chris Hoare with 25 points (13.6 h/cap).
Paddy Kenmore in Division 2 came in with a magnificent 37 points (20.4 h/cap). Thanks to the handicap system Paddy will now be playing off 19.2! Sheila Dindar was second in Division 2 with 33 points (24.5 h/cap) and Margaret Hoare third with 30 points ( 22.7 h/cap).
There were two nearest the pin prizes up for grabs on Holes 11 and 15, won by Michael Taylor and Michael (Poorly)Morley respectively.
Paddy Kenmore completed his good day by earning a Warbler ball for a two on the 4th hole and then winning the football card with Coventry (for the second week in a row). Coventry on the football card is obviously luckier than the actual team who are languishing in the middle of Division One and have lost their last 4 games. (Bit of research by the author!)
Thanks to Clive Kay, Vice Captain, for turning up for the start and prize presentation despite a bad back and for donating the bottle prizes. Hope the back improves Clive.
Congratulations to all the winners, especially Paddy "I've had a good day" Kenmore!
